Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic is one of the poorest countries in  the Caribbean. The country suffers from marked income inequality; the poorest half of the population receives less than one-fifth of GDP, while the richest 10% enjoys nearly 40% of GDP. There are two major players in the microfinance market (the bank ADEMI and ADOPEM) who concentrate on the higher market segment with an average loan size of USD 1.000.
